Dyer was the Detroit Lions’ Defensive Line Coach in 2003 and recently worked as a consultant at Denver Broncos’ training camps. Before joining Detroit, he was a staple in Denver (1995-2002) as the Broncos’ Defensive Line Coach then serving his final year as an Assistant to the Head Coach, Mike Shanahan. He won two Super Bowl championships (1998 & 1999) and improved the team’s sack numbers year-by-year, from just 23 the year before his arrival to 50 in 1999.

Before landing in Denver, Dyer was the Los Angeles Rams’ Defensive Coordinator & Defensive Line Coach (1992-1994) under his friend Chuck Knox. The two had previously worked together with the Seattle Seahawks. Dyer helped the Rams’ third overall draft pick, Sean Gilbert, achieve Pro Bowl status in just his second NFL season and his defence ranked among the best in the NFL against both the pass and the run.

Dyer spent nine years (1983-1991) in the Seattle Seahawks’ organization as its Defensive Line Coach. His line averaged 2.7 sacks per game in his first season and the team advanced to the AFC championship game. Led by a top-ranked defence, the team accumulated a .559 winning percentage during his tenure and advanced to the playoffs four times.

The Buffalo Bills hired Dyer for one season as their Defensive Line Coach (1982) and before that he served as the Defensive Coordinator at Arizona State (1980-1981) and Michigan State (1977-1979). In 1974, he came to Canada where he worked as an Assistant Coach for Bud Riley’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The team made the playoffs in two of his three seasons north of the border.

Dyer served as an Assistant Coach at San Jose State University in 1973 and at Idaho University in 1972 after holding the Defensive Coordinator position at Portland State for four seasons (1968-1971). Dyer began his career at Humboldt State University as an Assistant Coach from 1964 until 1966 when he accepted the Head Coach position at Coalinga Junior College in 1967.

This past January, Dyer worked his third straight year as a Defensive Coordinator at the High School All-American football game held annually in Florida.

As a player, George Dyer was a centre and linebacker at UC Santa Barbara from 1960-1963. In 1961, he was named team co-captain and Most Valuable Lineman. The Alhambra, California native lives in Centennial, Colorado with his wife Marjorie. The couple has five children and ten grandchildren.
