MISSISSAUGA – With consecutive days of back-to-back practices and a pre-season game looming, the Boatmen held just one workout this morning at the UTM practice facility.

It has been an emphasis all training camp, but special teams took the spotlight once again. The team practiced kickoff alignments and ran through personnel on punt return.  Kickers #7 Noel Prefontaine and #13 Grant Shaw gave their legs a workout while practicing field goals from all areas of the pitch throughout the morning. #38 WR/KR Jerome Hewitt, #44 Chad Kackert and #84 WR Sammy Tranks took the majority of the returns.

#12 QB Dalton Bell looked sharp today, connecting numerous times with rookie receiver #42 Jedd Gardner over the middle and assisting Tranks on a great grab in the back of the endzone during ‘skelly’.

Bell would meet his match later on, as veteran linebacker #26 LB Jordan Younger jumped an underneath route on the offence’s 10 yard line, picked it off and ran into the endzone.

The interception was fitting for Younger who had come close on a few occasions prior.

#95 DE Ricky Foley continued to lead by example at the rush end spot, knocking down a pass at the line and intercepting his own deflection for a turnover.  Ever more impressive was the fact that it was the third such play this camp orchestrated by the former CFL Most Outstanding Canadian.

Perhaps the most bizarre play of practice came when #2 WR/KR Chad Owens ran a route in man coverage and slipped on the grass, only to reach up and snag an errant pass while on the ground.  The fact that it only accounted for about a three-yard gain didn’t deter those in attendance from giving the ‘Flyin’ Hawaiian’ a well-deserved applause.

The Argos will head into a set of back-to-back practices on Wednesday and Thursday before running a walk-thru on Friday in preparation for their exhibition contest on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Rogers Centre.
