TORONTO - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate Head Coach Scott Milanovich who has been announced as one of three finalists for the 2012 CFL Coach of the Year award (Annis Stukus Award). This marks the second time in three seasons (Jim Barker, 2010) that an Argonauts head coach has been nominated for this award.

Commented Scott Milanovich, “I am truly humbled and honoured by this nomination. This was made possible by the work of many people throughout our organization including our entire coaching staff, personnel staff, players and front office. Congratulations to Coach Hufnagel and Coach Benevides, both of whom had tremendous seasons and are more than deserving of this award.”

In his first season as a CFL head coach, Milanovich led the Argonauts to victory in the 100th Grey Cup championship game. His club powered to five straight wins down the stretch while players like CFL Most Outstanding Player, Chad Owens set career, club and league regular season and playoff records. The Argos’ starting Grey Cup roster boasted five CFL rookie starters on defence and the team placed three players on the CFL all-star team. He installed a new and dynamic offence that returned explosive, winning football to Toronto. Under his guidance, the Double Blue scored more points (445) than any Argonauts team since 2005, and propelled QB Ricky Ray to his seventh career season with at least 4,000 passing yards.

With this announcement, Milanovich becomes the first Argonauts head coach to be nominated for the award since Jim Barker won it in 2010. Since 2002, an Argonauts head coach has been a finalist for the Annis Stukus award eight times (Michael Clemons from 2002-2007, Barker in 2010, Scott Milanovich in 2012).

The 2012 Coach of the Year nominees were selected by 45 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada. Milanovich is up against Calgary’s John Hufnagel and B.C.’s Mike Benevides for the award. The winner will be announced at a special luncheon on Thursday, February 28 at the Delta Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan.
